On the 11 November 2011, a moving and well-attended Armistice Day ceremony was held at the Great War Memorial in Arnos Vale. Reverend Carol Ann White led the touching service. It was attended by Arnos Vale staff and trustees, Friends of Arnos Vale, representatives from the Royal British Legion and members of the public. It was also attended by children from Hillcrest Primary, St Anne’s Juniors and St Anne’s Park Primary Schools. The children contributed to the ceremony in a range of different ways. Hillcrest children wrote a remembrance poem and read it at the ceremony. St Anne’s Park Primary St Anne’s Juniors also read poems . Many of the children also created their own poppies to lay and wrote the on the name of someone know to them or who they had researched who had been involved in a conflict, past or present. During the 2 minutes silence the poppies and crosses were laid with great respect at the foot of the Great War memorial, creating a field of poppies. As the bugler sounded the Reveille, the sun came out and a gust of wind blew through the poppies and autumn leaves. The ceremony was made particularly special by the presence of a standard bearer John Kipler from the St Silas branch of the Royal British Legion and bugler Tom Deakin from UWE.Friends of Arnos Vale and Trustees also laid wreaths and commemorations at all three war memorials on site as part of the act of remembrance.
