| Honey for Sale |
|
Gift Shop, East Lodge, Bath Road
The Gift Shop in Arnos Vale has some quirky, unique and unusual items for sale. New in this week are some large jars of pure honey supplied by Dick Berry and his legions of honeybees. Dick Berry has over 10 hives in the Ashton Court area with each of the hives amazingly holding up to 60,000 honeybees. Honeybees are extremely important for the environment for pollinating fruits and flowers. In the United States alone the honeybees are responsible for over 1/4 pollination of all fruit that is produced for human consumption. This large chunk represents a total of $10 billion to the economy. Quite an earning potential for such a small creature! With the early spring in 2011 this year has been particularly good for the production of honey. Our jars are large and full to the brim. In other outlets this honey can sell for up to £7.99 a jar. You can buy it here for only £5.45 - the best before date is September 2015 - so there's lots of time to be able to spread copious amounts over freshly baked bread or drizle it over some Vanilla ice-cream before it goes out of date! Dick Berry also runs Green Woodworking classes with another one planned for the Autumn at Arnos Vale - keep checking our events page for details. Come along on Doors Open Day on 10th September and you can see him at work in our Woodland Compound where they will be demonstrating the skills required to make furniture from wood at Arnos Vale.
