Arnos Vale Cemetery has a Heritage Gift Shop offering some unique and unusual items.  As part of the items for sale there is an opportunity for local artists to display and sell their work inside the shop which is located in the East Lodge, just off the Bath Road entrance.

For the next few weeks Arnos Vale is lucky to have Lisa Maylon as their artist in residence and her items of work are now on sale in the shop.

Lisa explains her unique style below:

"I have diversified slightly from my usual ‘Built in Bristol’ series by focussing specifically on series of original contemporary drawings depicting buildings and structures within Arnos Vale Cemetery.

I draw directly on textured pastel paper and a collage of pages torn either from local Bristol publications ‘Venue’ and ‘The Spark’ or using Chinese paper ‘money’ (traditionally burnt during Chinese New Year celebrations) and adding a touch of gold.

Following my time as an artist-in-residence during Bristol Open Doors Day 2010 I have worked on various studies throughout the cemetery; finding the juxtaposition of man-made structures against the flora especially inspirational for my work.  The drawings on display in the Arnos Vale gift shop are the culmination of those sketches."

Visit the Gift Shop, just off the Bath Road entrance inside the East Lodge, to view Lisa's work.

Also for sale we have recently added our range of unique growable gift tags.  Instead of buying the normal boring gift tags to put on presents this year, be really different - these tags are environmentally friendly and reusable in an unusual way.   Once the gift is open the tags would normally be discarded and thrown away.  Our gift tags can then be planted in a pot or your garden and they will grow Wild Flowers or Forget-me-Nots every year.  It's the gift that keeps on growing.  A selection of different shapes are available to choose from: doves, butterflies, angels, dolphins and hearts.
