| Doors Open Day 2010 - A Huge Success |
|
Over 550 people visited Arnos Vale on Doors Open Day 11th September 2010 with many enjoying the Guided Sculpture Tour Trails exploring the hidden treasures to be found on the 45 acre site. Four works by David Crowe, Iain Cotton, Celia Kilner and Alyosha Moeran have been installed across the landscape for visitors to find and enjoy. Demonstrations were held throughout the day by Iain Cotton and visitors were able to see first hand the intricate and delicate art of the letter carver's craft. Iain's other stone work was also on display inside the Anglican Chapel which doubled as an art exhibition centre for Doors Open Day. Lisa Maylon took up residence in various parts of Ceremonial Way and created original pieces of art of the various monuments and buildings at Arnos Vale as well as displaying her artwork inside the Anglican Chapel. Lisa's work will soon be on display in the Gift Shop at Arnos Vale just off the Bath Road entrance. Also on exhibit were the beautiful sculptures by Alyosha Moeran. Alyosha was available to discuss his sculptures and explain the process of how they were made to our visitors. Although the temporary exhibits have now been removed from the Anglican Chapel you can still see some of the sculptures around the 45 acre site at Arnos Vale and the new Sculpture Trail leaflet for self-guided tours is available at only £1.95 from our Gift Shop in the East Lodge just off of the Bath Road entrance. Visitors were given information on the Guardian Angels Membership Scheme and for those that joined on the day there was a free prize draw. Mandy Gibson was the lucky name out of the hat and enjoyed a box of goodies from the Gift Shop including: 4 Trail Leaflets, Arnos Vale Guide Book, 8 Postcards of Arnos Vale images, Fridge Magnet, two bags of Arnos Vale sweets, New Blooming Remembrance Bookmark, Blooming Gift Tag, Glass Angel and our unique Growing Gift Card. Visitors also enjoyed the Victorian Cafe inside the Spielman centre selling beverages and scrumptious home baked cakes. The Victorian Cafe is soon to be a permanent fixture at Arnos Vale opening during the winter on weekends only to begin with for all our visitors to enjoy. In finer weather the Victorian Cafe will open more frequently.
