The Lord Mayor of Bristol, Cllr Christopher Davies, led the official re-opening of Arnos Vale Cemetery Thursday morning. He took the opportunity to say a few words in the beautfully restored Anglican Chapel.
This is an amazing, historic, beautiful and tranquil place.
Cllr Christopher Davies, Mayor of Bristol

A horse-drawn Victorian hearse slowly cantered along Ceremonial Way towards the beautifully restored Anglican Chapel on Thursday 29th April, followed by over 60 children from Hillcrest School in Victorian dress. Cllr Christopher Davies, Lord Mayor of Bristol, was waiting to greet the procession and, helped by Estate Manager Nick Bull and Assistant Estate Manager Danny Hurley, the Lord Mayor planted a Yew tree outside the Anglican Chapel. Two children from Hillcrest School placed a replica Victorian Immortelle at the base of the Yew tree.
The Lord Mayor and Lori Streich, Chair of Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust, welcomed the invited guests and many members of the public who had come along to witness the Opening Ceremony and thanked them all for their contributions and hard work to date. The Opening Ceremony was concluded by mini tours of the Anglican Chapel and the Spielman Centre as well as the newly installed museum artefacts and displays.
This is both a celebration of the end of the restoration
and interpretation project, but also the beginning of our renewed
place in the life of the city.
Lori Streich, AVCT Chair
