Argentine Tango Dance Classes, Anglican Chapel, Arnos Vale

New to Arnos Vale on Saturday afternoons! Thomas Rasche will be starting Tango Classes.  from 2:00pm-4:00pm every Saturday afternoon you will be able to relax, enjoy and practice your Tango.  The first half hour will be class format and is suitable for complete beginners as well as the more advanced.  The remaining 90 minutes will be practice time to learn those steps, with Thomas on hand in case you need more, or you are able to watch others and pick up a few tips!

The Chapel of Arnos Vale Cemetery is a wonderfully bright space with an excellent wooden and tile floor. These weekly Practicas are your opportunity to practise your Argentine Tango.  You can meet and dance with other Tangueros, or dance with your partner - as you feel most comfortable.

Thomas is providing tuition, guidance and suggestions.  The first half hour is class format - the rest of the session is not. If you wish to speak to Thomas - just ask!  He will help guide you through the steps if needed.

The Practicas are 2-4pm every Saturday held in the Chapel.  We would ask that you wear dance-suited shoes (eg leather soles), and no stilettos please.

There is a cafe available in the Spielman Centre if you want to start your Saturday with a refreshing drink and delicious cake.  Parking is available and there are often historic, heritage and wildlife Guided Tours taking place in the morning if you wanted to make a day of it.  Alternatively you can visit our Gift Shop, located in the East Lodge building, where you can buy a Trail Guide and take a leisurely stroll at your own pace through the 45 acres of Victorian gardens.

How to Book:

Tickets are £7 entry (which includes tuition by Thomas).  No advanced booking required.

More information about Thomas Rasche

Thomas Rasche started dancing Argentine Tango in Berlin in 1997. From 2000 until 2006 Thomas lived and taught in Ireland. He has taught classes on behalf of Dublin Argentine Tango Society (DATS) and other promoters in Dublin, as well as in Cork and Waterford. In 2003 Thomas set up a Tango group in Mullingar, which had close links to the Longford-Westmeath Argentine Society. Since moving to the UK in 2006, he set up the Tango Lincs group in Lincolnshire, as well as having taught at Tango Mango events in Totnes, UK. He now lives in Bristol.

Thomas published the books 'Rasche Notation 2' in 2009 as a way of writing Tango steps, and ‘Argentine Tango - Class Companion’ in 2007 as a guide for students of Tango. This book covers the history, context and information about the dance, beyond that which is taught in classes.

Thomas has done numerous performances, including "The Tango Spell" with the Pasodos dance company. He has been taught by international dancers: Damián Esell & Nancy Louzán, Jorge Firpo & Aurora Lúbiz, Osvaldo Zotto & Lorena Ermocida, Fredi Gutzler & Leila El-Jarad, Claudio Omar & María Verónica, Gabriel Angió & Natalia Games, Pablo Veron, Mariano "Chicho" Frúmboli & Eugenia Parilla, Fabián Salas & Carolina del Rivero, Rodolfo ‘el Chino’ Aguerrodi & Miho Omaki, Matias Facio & Kara Wenham, Ricardo Klapwijk  & Nicole Nau, “El Pibe” Palermo and more. The understanding of music by Joaquín Amenábar and others.

Thomas’ dance style is of the Salons in Buenos Aires, and is characterised with smooth movement of the embracing couple across the floor. He teaches Tango in a way that enables you to quickly join a Milonga, the social dance evenings of Tango, with confidence. Tango is a fun and social dance; important are communication between the dancers in the embrace, good leading that is clear and accurate, musicality and the improvisation with steps, music and floorcraft.
