Torch-lit tour of Arnos Vale with night time wildlife-watching by lamplight. As darkness falls in the cemetery, we meet the denizens of the night - Moths! The secret world of moths is usually hidden to us but lamplight makes it possible to attract a huge number of these elusive creatures, tempted out by night-time nectar. Wildlife havens like Arnos Vale are home to several hundred different species, like the beautifully coloured and wonderfully named Large Yellow Underwing, Brimstone Moth and Flame Shoulder. If we are really lucky we might even spot a Ghost Moth! Be sure to bring a torch, sensible footwear and warm clothing. This event is weather dependant - moths and moth-watchers don't like the rain! Whilst here this is an ideal opportunity to visit the Gorilla (But Ssshhh! It's asleep!). Please look at our site access page and visiting safely. About the Guide Ray Barnett has had a life long interest in the creatures that really make the world go around - the small ones. He has worked in museums for 30 years and has specialised in the identification of insects, contributing to their conservation and understanding by setting up insect recording groups such as the Bristol & District Moth Group, founded in 1991. Collections Manager for Bristol Museums, Galleries & Archives since 1997, he manages the curatorial team which runs 5 museums in the city including the new M Shed museum to open in June 2011.
How to Book
Tickets are £7/£5 concessions. Gates open at 9:15pm and tickets must be booked in advance. This event is weather dependant - moths and moth-watchers don't like the rain! You can purchase your tickets via secure on-line payment by following the Paypal link below. Alternatively please visit the Box Office Reception located in the Gift Shop of the East Lodge building. This building is located to the left of the cemetery from the main Bath Road entrance. Reception is open from Monday - Saturday 10:00-4:00pm. You can also send a cheque, made payable to Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust to the following address and your tickets will be posted out to you.
