Wildlife Gardening for Beginners

butterflyWildlife Gardening for Beginners

Sunday 12th June

2:00-4:00pm

Have you ever wanted to encourage wildlife into your garden but not sure how to do it? This workshop will help you find out what's needed and to plan how to make your garden wildlife friendly.

POSTPONED

Arnos Vale is a listed landscape with a unique range of flora and fauna and is a site of special conservation interest. The ancient trees and wonderful habitats make it a fantastic place to explore and learn from and an ideal place to discover more about creating and nurturing wildlife around you from the staff who care for this amazing place.

The workshop will begin with a tour of the site explaining what makes Arnos Vale wildlife friendly. You will get hints and tips on how to improve an existing habitat or create a new wildlife habitat at home to attract a diversity of wild creatures. Advice will be given on ponds and how to create them, what should be planted for wildlife and tips on managing your garden in a more organic way. There will also be a chance to design a wildlife garden and have the design reviewed by the tutors. Fact sheets, advice leaflets and further sources of information will be given to you on the day which you can take home.

This workshop is led by our Estate Manager Nick Bull and Learning Coordinator Janine Marriott.

The creation of a wildlife friendly habitat will attract a diversity of wild creatures. By creating a comfortable haven for wildlife you can help provide a habitat in the most urban of areas. By helping hedgehogs, birds, bats, frogs and toads to survive the winter and providing places for them to raise their young, you will be rewarded by their helping to keep garden pests under control.
