DINO DISCOVERY

thecoTuesday 22nd February 2011

An activity for ALL the family!

Arnos Vale is pleased to host a dino discovery event for the whole family in conjuction with Bristol University's Bristol Dinosaur Project. Spend an hour being a palaeontologist. Excavate dinosaur bones, build a skeleton, handle real fossils that are millions of years old. Learn about some great Victorian scientist who helped discover dinosaurs, deadly diseases and drugs.

Who was Theco? Thecodonotosaurus Antiquus was discovered in Bristol in 1834 by Dr Henry Riley and Samuel Stuchbury who now rests in Arnos Vale. Nicknamed the "Bristol Dinosaur" it is one of the oldest plant-eating dinosaurs and its name means ancient socket toothed dinosaur. It was originally not described as a dinosaur and there was great discussion about whether it was just an inferior saurian (related to the crocodile). However, after much research, in 1870 (after the death of Stutchbury) it was finally dubbed a true Dinosaur or terrible lizard.

Tickets are £7 per family group with a maximum of two adults and three children per group.

There are three sessions running throughout the day to choose from:

Sessions: 10:00-11:00, 11:30-12:30 or 1:00-2:00.
