Future Memorial Artist Workshop

Gum balls and discussion

Work with eminent artist Julia Vogl, to build a prototype sculpture for the Future Memorial Project.

Help us shape how memorials will look in the future in this exciting one-off workshop with eminent artist Julia Vogl.  Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust are delighted to be collaborating with artist Julia Vogl in the Future Memorial - a one year participatory project supported by the Arts Council England.

Join Julia Vogl and professionals from Arnos Vale and the University of Bath Centre of Death and Society in an open-floor discussion with the audience about changing forms of memorialisation and the thought provoking questions this raises for us each personally.  This event will be held in Arnos Vale's Anglican Chapel, a beautiful mortuary chapel from the Victorian era.

The audience will have the opportunity to engage in making a social sculpture involving voting on their thoughts of death by casting a candy ballot.  This will help contribute to a prototype sculpture which will directly shape the development of a permanent sculpture.

The event will conclude with a brief presentation by Julia outlining the project and key dates that the public should be aware of for future engagement.

This event is part of Museums @ Night: Culture 24's festival of inspiring after hours cultural events at museums, galleries and heritage sites.  Thursday May 15th - Saturday May 17th 2014.
