Great War Iconography Stone-Carving Workshop

Centenary of the Great War

Mark the Centenary of the Great War in this half-day workshop to produce a beautiful carved memorial.

In August 1914, Britain declared war on Germany and joined the First World War, resulting in tragic loss of life on an unprecedented scale.

Arnos Vale is the last resting place of more than 300 servicemen from the Great War.  All sacrifices made in war were considered equally great and were marked by uniform gravestones and distinctive iconography.  In this special workshop during the centenary of the Great War you will learn to carve a Dove of Peace, Poppy or Remembrance image in stone for each student to take home.

Learn how to use traditional hand tools and techniques under the expert guidance of artist and stonemason Tanya Josham, in this perfect beginners course for budding sculptors.

Tea breaks are included in the half-day ticket.  This event is physically active so please wear sensible shoes and warm clothes that you'll be happy to get mucky.  Please note also that this event needs a minimum number of participants to run.

We regret that we cannot exchange, refund or transfer tickets unless the event in question has been cancelled or rescheduled by Arnos Vale.

The Underwood Centre

Join us at Arnos Vale's new Underwood Centre - your base for today's workshop.  Built in an area formerly known as "the compound", the Underwood Centre is a beautiful reclaimed timber-framed building with compost toilet, fire-pit and outdoor seating.

The centre hosts a wide range of woodland-based activities for adults, families, schools and volunteer groups alike and is available to hire.

Tickets are £36 per person.

To reduce our overheads and improve the booking process, we have moved to an on-line booking system for events at Arnos Vale. If you have any problems booking your tickets, please contact us on 0117 971 9117
