Cemetery Symbols Stone Carving Workshop

Stone Carving Workshop

stone-man-two.jpg

Half-day workshop to produce a beautiful stone relief carving inspired by the iconic cemetery symbols in Arnos Vale.

Arnos Vale has some 50,000 individual grave memorials that showcase 170 years' skill in stone-carving.

Make your mark in these atmospheric surroundings by joining our stonemason at the Underwood Centre for an afternoon introduction to the craft of hand-carving stone.  Inspired by the iconic symbols to be found on memorials in Arnos Vale, you will carve a Draped Urn, Celtic Cross or Lily in stone relief to take home.

Learn how to use traditional hand tools and techniques under the expert guidance of artist and stonemason Tanya Josham, in this perfect beginners course for budding sculptors.

Tea breaks are included in the half-day ticket.  This event is physically active so please wear sensible shoes and warm clothes that you'll be happy to get mucky.  Please note also that this event needs a minimum number of participants to run.

We regret that we cannot exchange, refund or transfer tickets unless the event in question has been cancelled or rescheduled by Arnos Vale.

The Underwood Centre

Join us at Arnos Vale's new Underwood Centre - your base for today's workshop.  Built in an area formerly known as "the compound", the Underwood Centre is a beautiful reclaimed timber-framed building with compost toilet, fire-pit and outdoor seating.

The centre hosts a wide range of woodland-based activities for adults, families, schools and volunteer groups alike and is available to hire.
